  here are some instructions if you want to do the revised lab tomorrow:

  First of all, I made some minor modifications to the text: if you want
to use these, print the file:
           /home/charon1/holtz/labmanual.ps
and xerox enough copies to hand out.

  1. start setting up computers around 1:00pm. Roll the four computers out
of the back room. Each one needs to have the power cord from the cart 
plugged into the wall, and the Ethernet cable needs to be plugged in to
any of the TWO TOP ports in any of the Ethernet sockets; BEWARE, the lower
two ports in each box are NOT connected.

  2. After hooking up power and Ethernet, start the computers by hitting
the power button on the computers themselves. Monitors should already
be on when you plug the cart in.

  3. Computers should come all the way up to login: prompt by themselves.

  4. Login as user: astro password: ha6563$
     Start up the window system using: startx

  5. Start Netscape by clicking the netscape icon.

  6. Point Netscape to:

        http://javalab.uoregon.edu/dcaley/PlankRadiationFormula/PRF.html

     This is slightly different version than we were using today, and I hope
   that it works better.

  7. When you are done with the lab, exit the window system by choosing logout
   from the menu under the K in the upper left. Log out.

  8. Shut the computers down by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE. Wait until the
   shutdown stops and computers say something like: System halted, then
   hit the power button on the computer. If you don't hit it, then the
   computer will reboot back up!

  9. Disconnect cables and stow the computers nicely.
