Magnascopium
Magnascopium was my first large telescope. It is a 10'', f/5.6 Dobsonian telescope, with a primary mirror which meets or exceeds 1/8 wave, PTV, as confirmed by a star test. The name was given by my older brother, who is a scholar of Latin and Greek. I bought this telescope in 1995, one year after the Shoemaker-Levy comet impact at Jupiter. After many experiments to reduce the weight and storage space requirements of this telescope, I decided to rebuild it.
I purchased a Telekit, Dobsonian kit, from Astrosystems (see links), in the spring of 2010. I finally had the chance to build the kit during the spring of 2011. It is a complete kit, with exquisite woodwork. It was easy to build and went together very quickly.
Since I completed the rebuild, I have used this scope to probe many galaxies, including the few brightest members of the Coma Cluster and even the three brightest members of the Hercules Cluster.
This excellent telescope is also useful for public outreach projects.
