Latest Discoveries in the Pluto System
Marc Buie
It's been 12.5 years since my last visit to NMSU and nearly as long since the passing of Pluto's discoverer, Clyde Tombaugh. Since that time the pace of discovery has not let up and I will review the results of a number of projects I've been working on that will include such things as the discovery of the two new moons Nix and Hydra, improvements in orbital elements and what they tell us about the system, time evolution of Pluto's atmosphere, albedo and surface composition maps, and a look ahead at the New Horizons flyby in 2015.
