The FIRST SURVEY is Gone (from the schedule), but Not Forgotten

Bob Becker

After fourteen years, it's finally over. With over 800,000 distinct, catalogued sources, the FIRST survey stands as one of the premier archival records of the radio sky. It stands as a complement to the great optical survey SDSS. The FIRST collaboration has switched gears from surveying to mining. I will present some recent results on quasars and starforming galaxies based on combining the FIRST survey with data from other benchmark surveys. In particular, I will report on investigations into sources which are undetected in the FIRST survey, i.e., blank field astronomy.
