We'll discuss one of the Sun's dramatic, yet indirect influences on our lives: magnetic storms. Find out how energy from coronal mass ejections is transferred into the Earth's magnetosphere where it is then consumed and expelled in geomagnetic disturbances, and where does the energy go? We present a basic introduction to the science of space weather, and then describe ongoing research at UTEP to help explain these complex phenomena.
