Kuiper Belt Object Properties

  • Through a spectroscope, the sufaces of most Kuiper Belt Objects appear very similar to Pluto.

     

  • Also appear to similar to comet nuclei.

     

  • They all appear to contain varying amounts of water, nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide ice.

     

  • Two broad categories: Red KBOs and Gray KBOs. Pluto is red.

     

  • Many have moons!
