Pluto's does have a very tenuous and extended atmosphere, about 1/200,000 the surface pressure of Earth's.
All atmospheric data comes from 4 stellar occultations: 1985, 1988, 2002, 2006, and 2007 (seen from New Mexico!)
Atmosphere theorized to disappear as Pluto gets further from Sun after its 1989 perihelion...no evidence yet.
Atmosphere consists of mostly nitrogen and some methane. Small amount of carbon monoxide also theorized for surface temperature to fit observations.
Upper atmosphere appears to be warmer than surface, about 100K. This is possibly due to sublimation of nitrogen ice.
