Another Solution:Absolute Magnitude.
- Until now, we've only talked about Apparent magnitude
- This depends, among other things, on the distance to the star.
- We can correct for distance by talking about Absolute magnitude.
- This is what magnitude a given star would have if it were moved to a distance of 10 parsecs.
Examples:
Deneb: Absolute Magnitude of -7.5
The Sun: Absolute Magnitude of 4.8
Proxima Centauri: Absolute Magnitude of 15.5
