The park staff really don't want you to build rock piles. Moving rocks around and stacking them in piles is considered insulting to Pele, and it also annoys the geologists.
I am curious about the specificity of "rock piles," though. Is building a rock pile particularly insulting to Pele, compared to just moving rocks around?
(By the way, this is the last photo in the place that smelled like sulfur.)
