Later in the night, I was finally able to get all of Scorpius in one image. This is a 30-second exposure. If you look carefully enough, you can even see a star cluster just above the tail.

Here are some guide lines to help. The brightest star in this constellation is Antares, whose name means "rival of Mars". It was called this because is appears as a bright red object in the sky, just like Mars.



Here's another 1-minute, super-contrast version. That red haze-like stuff around the scorpion's tail is the Milky Way. The center of the galaxy is in there, right around the very top of the image.
