Helioseismology at NMSU

Welcome! This page is dedicated to research in helioseismology in New Mexico State University's storied Department of Astronomy.

Faculty and students are jointly conducting research as part of an National Science Foundation-funded project to measure the deep plasma motions of the Sun and to study how the Sun generates its violent magnetic fields.

Helioseismology is the study of oscillations in the Sun (loosely depicted in the figure on the right) to understand the solar interior. For a short overview of helioseismology, and the main goals of this project, please click here.
