Why do we do those group questions in class? What's the point?
- I was in a teaching workshop recently, where people discussed their experience and some studies that have
been done. The general conclusion was that classes that included short breaks, and allowed students to talk with
each other, had a significantly higher degree of learning than classes that did not include these.
- Several surveys have been done about what employers are looking for in future employees, and one
thing that repeatably comes up is the ability to talk and work with others.
- Several studies suggest that students learn better from listening to each other than from listening
to a teacher, perhaps because they "speak the same language"
- Hopefully it makes class more fun
