For your planet (Mercury, Venus, Mars, or Jupiter), consider the following:
- Does the planet have phases?
- What time(s) of day might you see the planet
- How does the planet appread to move through the sky, i.e., what
path might it take and what direction might it appear to move? Consider both
the case of watching the planet through the course of a single night, and
also if one were to watch it over the course of a year or more, at the same time
each night?
Remember:
- The qualitative motions of the planets can be understood if one
recognizes that:
- All of the planets move around the Sun in roughly the same plane
- All of the planets move around the Sun in the same direction
- The planets which are nearer to the Sun move faster than those
which are farther away
