STAR FORMATION IN EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES

Abstract

We (myself and Rene Walterbos, others within the SDSS collaboration are welcome) have selected a sample of early-type galaxies from the second data release (DR2) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to explore the possibility that the rare (~5%) star forming early type galaxies are the progenators of post-starburst, "E+A" galaxies. We also use the data and this assumption to determined the distribution of possible star formation time scales for these objects. We are in the process of preparing two papers on this work. Since this work was performed on data taken from DR2, the data is public domain, and we include here URLs for the 830 brightest galaxies in the sample. Each URL contains the basic data on the galaxy including a five color JPEG image and a GIF spectrum with links to the FITS versions of the images and spectrum.
