Research

I am working on a project with Dr. Jim Murphy that focuses on the evolution of the Martian aeolian (wind) regime over time. I use the NASA Ames General Circulation Model (GCM) to examine the effects of orbital variation (changes in obliquity, eccentricity and the season of perihelion with time) on the pattern of dust lifting and deposition on the surface of Mars. In addition, I use high resolution images taken by the Mars Global Surveyor and the Mars Odyssey to characterize crater populations. The end goal of this project is to age-date three regions (Tharsis, Arabia, and Elysium) using an independent method from those used in previous studies.

I would like to acknowledge NASA for funding and support through the Graduate Student Research Program.

Postdoctoral Work

I successfully defended my Ph.D. thesis on The Martian Dust Cycle and the Evolution of Surface Dust Resevoirs, on November 10, 2005. I have accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at NASA Ames, to continue my work on the dust properties of the Martian surface.
