This is the headquarters for information about the Mars Direct mission plan. Inspired by Robert Zubrin's book, Case for Mars. Includes a long list of downloadable documents.

Mars Society Catagory: Public; Rating: 5
The Purpose of the organization is to further the goal of the exploration and settlement of the Red Planet through: broad public outreach to instill the vision of pioneering Mars; support of ever more aggressive government funded Mars exploration programs around the world; and conducting Mars exploration on a private basis.

Starships, Space Colonies, and the Like Catagory: Public; Rating: 5
Has a number of very informative technical articles about space station design that can be understood by a non-engineer with a grasp of basic physics. This site also has a number of graphics artist's conceptions of various types of space stations. Has about 35 links.

The Lunar Resources Co. Catagory: Public; Rating: 4
This organization's goal is to establish an enduring private space program that opens the path for humans to travel in space. Associated with Artemis Project.

Orbital Space Settlements Catagory: Government; Rating: 4
Associated with NASA's NASA's Human Exploration and Development of Space Enterprise (HEDS). Contains a number of good space colonization links.

The International Space Exploration and Colonization Co Catagory: ?; Rating: 4
An Alaska based organization working on the necessary technology to colonize space, including a biosphere. It appears to have been a while since this site was updated. It contains a 30-40 links to space colonization and biosphere sites.

National Space Society Online Rating: 4
A very comprehensive site with information on various aspects of space exploration. A bit confusing to navigate. Has a large number of links.

The Artimis Project Catagory: Public; Rating: 4
A website designated for the purpose of colonizing the moon. The people sound very serious; they have a game plan and a very well worked out schedule of events.

Living Universe Foundation Catagory: Public; Rating: 3
Inspired by Marshall Savage's book The Millennial Project, which details how humans can build toward the ultimate human destiny of leaving planet Earth and colonizing space. A bit "New Agey."

Cosmic Search Catagory: Public; Rating: 3
Magazine interview with Gerard O'Neill. Here's a sample quote: "I see three possibilities for a civilization that gets to about our stage: stagnation, annihilation and expansion out into space through space colonies."

Island One Society Catagory: Public; Rating: 3
Affiliate of Artemis Society. Island One is intended as a meeting place for future space colonists and business people of a libertarian or at least "live and let live" bent. Its name is taken from Dr.Gerard O'Neill's concept for a full fledged L5 Colony, a Bernal Sphere he named "Island One."
