Reading Assignments

1. Next installment of Red Mars

2. In preparation for John Logsdon's videcon, please read his article:
"Just Say Wait to Space Power". Pressure is building for greater
military use of space, but no action should be taken without a
   broad public discussion.

Just Say Wait to Space Power
At this page, click on "Reports and Publication" and then find the
link titled "Just Say Wait to Space Power".

3. There are many other good articles on space policy in the Space
   Policy Digest Archives:

   Space Policy Archive

you are assign only one space policy article to read give a
   synopsis of in class:

Andrew -- How to Return to the Moon
Ricardo -- Let's Challenge China to a Space Race
Michael -- A Space Program for the 21st Century
   Matt -- Opening the Spaceways
Jen -- Why has the U.S. State Department Declared War on the American Satellite Industry?
Kyle -- How Not to Go to Mars

4. In the Ad Astra article on U.S. National Space Policy Limitations
(pgs 26-28), the author lists the 1989 and 1996 National Space
Policy priorities. As you read the above articles on space policy,
think about what the 5 or 6 priorities of the Bush Administration
might be in regard to space policy and what priorities the
ideal pro-space 2004 presidential candidate might choose,
based on your readings of NSS's Roadmap to Space. We'll discuss
these lists in class on Monday and write up questions for John
Logsdon's videocon (which will be conducted in an interview
   format).
