In Jan 2021, the Department of Astronomy made the change from hosting our web pages on astronomy.nmsu.edu using WordPress to using the university domain astro.nmsu.edu using the Cascade Content Management System. This was in compliance with NMSU's security initiatives, as Cascade offers better security than WordPress.
We now have a redirect in place at astronomy.nmsu.edu which will now redirect anyone who lands there to the new cascade pages at astro.nmsu.edu.
Whereas WordPress offered access to editing the webpages to everyone via a shared account, this is not desired, encouraged, or even possible with Cascade. As such, only a handful of users have access to the Cascade Pages to edit them.
Zach E. was in charge of the transfer from WordPress to Cascade and has the most permission and knowledge surrounding the Cascade CMS. If you need anything edited or have any suggestions - please feel free to send them an email (zachedwa at nmsu.edu) with any requests concerning our dept's Cascade Pages. Please note, while we can certianly assist you if you email the issues email alias, there is a specific email alias that was created to assist with the cascade pages which includes more users that have edit access and are comfortable with Cascade - this is
webadmin at astronomy.nmsu.edu
In addition to Zach E., Jon H. and Jason are knowledgeable surrounding the Cascade Pages and are also 'Web Admins' for the department.
Each of the faculty members do have access to the Cascade pages, however, this access is mainly for their personal use (updating their pages, adding posts, events, etc). If you need anything edited, added, or changed - please don't hesitate to reach out to Zach E.
We are aware that limited access to the Cascade CMS is not desirable, and we are actively accessing the needs of the dept and graduate students.
Currently, the AGSO Web Managers (Amanda and Samir) have access to the Cascade Pages (with limited permissions) under the supervision of Zach E. in order to address the needs of the graduate students.
If you are a graduate student and need your pages edited - please contact Amanda and Samir with the desired information and they will be able to add that to your pages.
