=== **Network issues on Dec 14th / 15th** ===

On Dec 14th it was noted that the performance on the cluster was horrible and very sluggish. Additionally, Riah and Lydia reported to me this morning that there were connection issues with the printers. 

Contacting noc, Anrafael came out to trouble shoot on Dec 15th. He noted that it appears that a feedback loop was created in the network. The network boxes / ports that flagged issues for points of interest were in 218 (PDS / Lyle's office), 301 (Rita's office), and 107A (Irma's office). Anrafael traced the potential source of the feedback loop to 301's port. This ethernet cable went into a router and then the other cable went out to a camera on the roof (which I'm pretty sure is metcam - but I'm not sure of all the instruments on the roof). When the cable to that camera was unplugged, the loop stopped. We plugged the cable back in, and the loop was not recreated (thankfully!). 

I'm a bit confused by this, since no one has moved those cables (and Nancy confirmed this). Anrafael mentioned that it is possible that someone could have plugged in a cable somewhere else creating a loop, but it was symptomatic at this port. 

Regardless, there are no more loops. Anrafael is going to remotely investgate and monitor our network for a little bit. 

Additionally, he flagged 107A's port as having issues post storms / power outages. And might also be a suspect for issues.
