Crazy Washington and its Impact on Astronomy

Abstract: As was made imminently clear this fall, things that happen in Washington, DC can have unexpected and detrimental impacts on scientific research and the country in general. I will present the current political situation as it relates to science funding—specifically funding for the astronomical sciences, describe ways that individual scientists can have a positive impact and urge all attendees to focus a small part of their professional work time on advocacy.
