The Adoration of the Holy Trinity (Landauer Altar), 1511Oil on lindenwood, 135 x 123,4 cm Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna It was commissioned in 1508 by the wealthy Nuremberg metal-smelter Matthäus Landauer for the chapel of his Twelve-Brothers House, an almshouse set up to care for a dozen elderly artisans. Dürer also designed the intricately carved wooden frame for the painting, as well as stained-glass windows for the chapel, and the project took three years to complete. |
