Things to do in and around Las Cruces

There are plenty of great activities for you in southern New Mexico. If you arrive a few days early, stay a few days longer, or just want to skip a session, check out this list. It is sorted in distance from Las Cruces.

Historic Old Mesilla (4 km)

Beautiful old plaza where Billy the Kid was tried in court with shopping, food, and wine.

Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park (8 km, 15 mins)

The park along the banks of the Rio Grande is a refuge for wildlife and a haven for people seeing the quiet enjoyment of nature.

The Organ Mountains (20 km, 30 mins)

Overlooking Las Cruces to the east, the Organs provide excellent hiking, mountain biking and birding opportunities.

White Sands National Monument (90 km, 1 hr)

Over 275 square-miles of naturally produced gypsum, creating one of the most unique sites in the world. Located 45 miles east of Las Cruces. Excursions will also take us there. IMPORTANT: Bring your passport if you are not a U.S. citizen. There is a border patrol checkpoint near the entrance.

Carlsbad Caverns (300 km, 4 hrs)

Don't miss these giant underground caves!

Gila National Forest (315 km, 5 hrs )

A very undeveloped national park, the sixth largest in the U.S. Don't forget to see the incredible Gila Cliff Dwellings within the park.
